Below is information on just a few of the many success stories from WRC's Brownfields Program.


Algiers Village Redevelopment in Guilford, Vt.

The 2014 Phoenix Award Institute winning project demonstrates how sustainable development and smart growth can be applied on a small scale and in a rural community. The infill project turned an abandoned brownfield site into a vital community asset with 17 units of affordable housing.  The redevelopment integrated mixed commercial and residential uses and pedestrian-friendly design and amenities.

Commonwealth Dairy:  A former junkyard in Brattleboro becomes a dairy that employs dozens and produces award-winnng yogurt.

Commercial Redevelopment in Bellows Falls, Vt.

Bocelli's Cafe and Auction House:  A former industrial garage in BellowsFalls became a thriving restaurant, market, and auction house

Visitor Center in Bellows Falls, Vt.

Connecticut River Byway Waypoint Visitors Center:  A former rail yard in BellowsFalls becomes a vistor center, incorporating in its design an echo of a steel arch bridge from the past.

Multimodal Transportation Center in Brattleboro, Vt.

Brattleboro Transportation Center:  The Bradley Lot (the brownfield property) and the Bushnell Block (an adjoining lot) came to life again as a multi-modal transit facility consisting of approximately 340 parking spaces, a passenger waiting area, public restrooms, a small parking enforcement office, and commercial space.
